Uterus and cervix motion
Variable bladder fill results in significant uterine and cervix mobility. Image guidance for cervix is difficult to achieve with any x-ray based image guidance.
Clarity's U/S imaging and manual and automatic segmentation makes uterus and cervix localization possible and enables IMRT and cervix boost treatments.
Body of uterus shape changes
Gyne treatment plans that encompassing the uterus, cervix and regional lymph node chains require large treatment volumes to account for uterus retroversion. Daily verification of the endometrial position relative to the superior, anterior, and posterior borders eliminates position uncertainty and may spare nearby healthy surrounding tissues, such as the rectum where margins are tight.

Volume of interest coverage estimate
To provide the confidence that the GTV is in the MLC volume, Clarity automatically calculates the amount of the reference volume included in the irradiated volume.
Clarity's Volume Of Interest Coverage Estimate (VOICE) will immediately show if part of the reference volume is outside the MLC beam edge in any direction.
Gyne IGRT
Multimodality image fusion, visualization and segmentation for cervix and uterus
Clarity provides 3D U/S IGRT to enable IMRT for cervix and more conformal therapy for uterus treatments by aiding in definition of the GTV and PTV with CT-U/S automatic image fusion.
Clarity U/S Sim exploits the benefits of ultrasound by combining its superior soft tissue imaging characteristics with other imaging modalities such as CT. Its unique Implicit Registration™ facilitates accurate and automatic fusion, thereby providing more comprehensive anatomical information from both imaging modalities. Voxel based contouring provides intuitive tools to define the cervix GTV and PTV. For example, the GTV and OAR images can be contoured in the sagittal view. Contours may be exported to treatment planning sytems in DICOM RT format.
Volume coverage and positional verification
Clarity provides 3D U/S IGRT for daily position verification using ultrasound to ultrasound comparison of reference and daily uterus/cervix position. It also addresses the uncertainty in gyne radiotherapy due to uterine body shape and size changes during the course of treatment, by verifying the position of the reference volume relative to the anterior, superior, and posterior borders to minimize dose to healthy surrounding organs, such as the rectum.
The system will alert the user if the uterus has shifted outside of the treatment portals or if the cervix is incorrectly localized for post treatments. Additionally this "at the moment" visualization enables external beam boost techniques with greater confidence in posterior borders for rectal sparing.
